Their story
VETASSESS is one of Australia’s leading skills assessment organisations, providing services to individuals, government and industry across migration, vocational education and training, and occupational assessment.
Established in 1997, the organisation supports national and international clients with skills assessments, competency assessments and services for people seeking to enter specific occupations and organisations.
As demand for its services has evolved, VETASSESS has continued to invest in the people, systems and capability needed to support its operations and broader transformation.
The challenge
VETASSESS has experienced significant periods of growth and change over the course of its partnership with Talent.
Following the pandemic, demand for its services increased substantially, creating a backlog of applications and a need to rapidly expand workforce capacity. Between April 2022 and December 2023 alone, VETASSESS made 62 placements through Talent as the organisation scaled to meet demand.
At the same time, VETASSESS was progressing broader technology transformation and modernisation initiatives, which created ongoing demand for specialist capability.
The challenge wasn’t simply filling vacancies. VETASSESS needed people who could step into a changing environment, contribute quickly and support both immediate operational requirements and longer-term transformation.
As the organisation’s workforce needs expanded beyond technology and digital, it also needed a recruitment partner that understood the business well enough to support hiring across a broader range of functions.
The solution
Our relationship with VETASSESS began more than six years ago, when Talent was one of several recruitment suppliers supporting the organisation.
Through consistent delivery and a strong understanding of VETASSESS’ business, culture and workforce needs, the relationship steadily expanded. Talent moved from primarily supporting technology and digital recruitment to delivering permanent and contract hiring across both technology and business functions.
Over the course of the partnership, Talent has supported roles including:
- Data and Reporting Analysts
- Senior Business Analysts
- .NET Developers
- Cyber Security and Network Specialists
- Systems Engineers
- PowerApps Developers
- D365 Business Analysts
- Application Support
- Analyst Programmers
- Assessment Officers
Rather than approaching each vacancy in isolation, our team worked closely with VETASSESS on broader workforce planning, helping the organisation identify and secure the capability needed as priorities changed.
A key part of that success has been the investment made on both sides of the relationship. The Talent team built strong relationships with hiring managers across VETASSESS, developing a detailed understanding of its teams, culture and transformation priorities, allowing us to respond quickly to new requirements and focus on long-term fit rather than simply supplying candidates.
Talent also brought in its IT project delivery arm, Avec, when VETASSESS needed a technology solution to help manage increased application volumes. Avec supported the organisation with AI-enabled data validation and classification, extending the partnership beyond recruitment and into broader transformation support.
The result
Across more than six years, Talent has made 94 placements for VETASSESS, including 58 permanent and 36 contract hires across technology, digital and broader business functions.
Beyond the volume of hiring, the partnership has helped VETASSESS build capability across critical areas including data, cyber security, infrastructure, applications and business analysis, supporting both day-to-day operations and longer-term transformation.
One particularly significant appointment was a Senior Business Analyst brought into VETASSESS as it prepared to embark on its transformation. Initially engaged as a contractor, the candidate became a valued part of the organisation and was subsequently offered a permanent position.
The longevity and breadth of the relationship reflect how the partnership has evolved. What began with Talent as one of several recruitment suppliers has developed into a workforce planning relationship built on trust, consistency and a deep understanding of VETASSESS as an organisation.
As VETASSESS continues to evolve, Talent remains a trusted partner in building the workforce and capability needed to support its next stage of growth and transformation.
