Key activities

  • Develop enterprise-wide architecture strategies, including roadmaps, blueprints, and reference architectures.
  • Translate strategic goals into technology solutions by collaborating with business units and senior leadership.
  • Guide and support Solution Architects, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and long-term vision.
  • Lead architectural governance and compliance processes, embedding best practices across all technology domains.
  • Assess current and future capabilities, identifying gaps and shaping improvement initiatives.
  • Drive integration and data strategy, working across platforms, APIs, microservices, and cloud ecosystems.
  • Contribute to project delivery, ensuring new solutions align with architectural and organisational goals.

What You’ll Bring

  • Solid experience as an Enterprise Architect in large, complex environments
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives
  • Strong experience in Data Architecture, including conceptual and logical modelling, data quality management (DQM), master data management (MDM), data governance, and data lifecycle management.
  • Understanding of Integration Architecture, including ESB, ETL/ELT, APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and API lifecycle management
  • Strong technical breadth across modern platforms, technologies, and processing environments
  • TOGAF certification or equivalent experience

We are seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to lead the architecture and integration of large-scale, technology initiatives within a higher-education digital transformation program.

About the Role:

In this role, you will work within the Digital Transformation Delivery team, reporting to the Head of Architecture, and collaborate closely with senior project managers, business analysts, and enterprise architects. Your primary responsibility will be translating complex business needs into scalable, secure, and sustainable architecture solutions that support strategic objectives. You will prepare and present architecture artefacts for governance approvals and oversee their implementation across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design end-to-end solution architectures for strategic initiatives
  • Convert business requirements into technical designs and architecture documentation
  • Define application, data, and infrastructure components
  • Address non-functional requirements like security, performance, and resilience
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise standards and governance
  • Evaluate technology platforms, APIs, and data models
  • Collaborate with delivery teams to guide implementation and resolve technical challenges
  • Identify and mitigate architecture risks and technical debt

About You:

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field; architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS, Azure) preferred
  • Extensive experience in solution architecture for enterprise projects
  • Strong knowledge of integration platforms, cloud services, and data architecture
  • Understanding of security, compliance, and performance considerations
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and traditional delivery methodologies

The focus of this role is ensuring the safe integration of modern data platforms with high-voltage infrastructure to shape the future of energy distribution

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on Solution Design: Lead the end-to-end technical design and configuration of integrated IT/OT solutions, ensuring high-level strategy translates into functional field engineering.

  • Grid Modernization: Act as the lead architect for mission-critical systems including SCADA, ADMS, and OMS, guiding functional upgrades, system migrations, and direct implementation support.

  • Cybersecurity Governance: Embed industrial security standards (such as IEC 62443) into all architectural patterns, focusing on network segmentation and practical application of the Purdue Model.

  • System Integration: Define, build, and govern integration patterns (APIs, MQTT, DNP3) between field devices, substations, and enterprise platforms like GIS and Asset Management.

  • Stakeholder Management: Act as a technical “translator” between IT leadership and operational engineering teams to drive consensus on complex, executable roadmaps.

Key Requirements

  • Industry Experience: Extensive background in Solution or Enterprise Architecture, specifically within Utilities, Energy, or Heavy Industrial sectors.

  • OT Technical Depth: Proven experience with utility-scale platforms such as GE PowerOn/GridOS, Schneider EcoStruxure, or ABB Ability.

  • Integration Expertise: Deep understanding of the convergence between real-time operational systems and corporate IT environments, with a focus on practical deployment.

  • Relevant Frameworks: Proficiency in TOGAF, SABSA, or NIST, with a strong grasp of industrial control system (ICS) security protocols.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Role Details:

  • Develop and enhance features within a modern .NET Core environment

  • Experience in small-mid sized organisations preferred
  • Finance sector exposure beneficial (but not essential)

  • Independently picking up backlog items with minimal technical friction
