Technical Lead
Technical Services Lead
We’re looking for an experienced Technical Services Lead to join a growing managed services and cyber security environment in Sydney.
This is a senior hands-on technical leadership role for someone who can operate as the technical authority across complex client environments while still remaining close to the technology.
You’ll lead senior engineers, own technical standards, manage complex Level 3 escalations and major incidents, oversee technical projects and work directly with clients across infrastructure, Microsoft cloud and cyber security.
Importantly, this is not a traditional desk-based management role. Approximately half your time will remain hands-on, solving complex engineering problems, with the remainder focused on technical decisions, standards, clients and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority across client infrastructure and cloud environments.
- Own technical standards across Microsoft 365, endpoints, networking and backup environments.
- Take ownership of complex Level 3 escalations.
- Lead the technical response to major incidents and security breaches.
- Build strong technical relationships with key enterprise and multi-site clients.
- Support solution design, technical scoping, effort estimates and pre-sales activities.
- Lead infrastructure and cyber security conversations with senior client stakeholders.
- Review Essential Eight reports and security findings before they are presented to clients.
- Deliver and oversee projects including Microsoft 365 tenant migrations, SharePoint/OneDrive migrations, network refreshes, site builds and cutovers.
- Lead, coach and develop Level 3 engineers.
About You
You’ll be a senior infrastructure and cloud engineer who has progressed into technical leadership while remaining genuinely hands-on.
To be successful, you’ll bring:
- 8+ years’ experience across infrastructure and Microsoft cloud engineering.
- At least 3 years’ experience leading technical engineers, ideally within an MSP.
- Strong hands-on experience across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and Defender.
- Strong knowledge of Conditional Access and identity security.
- Strong networking capability across UniFi, Meraki, FortiGate, VLANs and VPNs.
- Solid working knowledge of Essential Eight and ISO 27001.
- Experience leading complex technical escalations and major incidents.
- Strong technical project delivery experience, including migrations and after-hours cutovers.
- Confidence presenting technical and cyber security matters to senior client stakeholders and executives.
- Experience contributing to solution design, technical scoping and effort estimation.
- Experience using AI and automation tools in day-to-day engineering.
- Full Australian working rights and a current driver’s licence.
Experience with Azure, PowerShell or Python, HaloPSA, NinjaOne or managing offshore technical teams will also be highly regarded.
The Opportunity
This is a great opportunity for a technically strong leader who wants genuine ownership across cloud, infrastructure, cyber security, engineering standards and client solutions without moving away from hands-on technical work.
You’ll have the opportunity to shape technical standards, develop senior engineers and influence how technology and cyber security solutions are delivered across a diverse client environment.
