Talent International is currently recruiting for a Social Media Specialist to work for the Local Government, based in Bankstown. This position is a contract role for 12 months with a view to be extended, and the role pays $74.61 per hour + Super.

5-day working week. Monday-Friday, business hours between 8.30am-5.30pm (depending on 1hr or 30min lunch break)

About the Role

The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for developing a new organisation-wide Social Media Strategy and managing the organisation’s social media channels.

The role will use audience insights, analytics and stakeholder feedback to improve social media performance, strengthen governance and ensure communications are accessible, engaging and appropriate for diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an organisation-wide Social Media Strategy.
  • Manage and optimise the organisation’s social media channels.
  • Review existing channels, content practices, audience engagement and performance.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to improve content and channel effectiveness.
  • Develop governance frameworks, content standards, channel principles and reporting processes.
  • Prepare practical implementation plans, guidelines and executive-ready recommendations.
  • Engage stakeholders across the organisation to gather insights and understand communication needs.
  • Establish effective processes for content publishing, moderation, monitoring, escalation and risk management.
  • Manage paid and organic social media activities.
  • Identify and manage reputational, political and community-facing communication risks.
  • Support accessible, inclusive and multicultural communications.

Essential Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, stakeholder engagement, organisational improvement, project delivery or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing, implementing or leading a social media strategy within a large or complex organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary social media platforms, audience behaviour, content trends, algorithms, paid and organic content, analytics and digital engagement.
  • Experience using data and insights to guide strategy, improve content performance and assess channel effectiveness.
  • Experience developing social media governance frameworks, operating models, content standards, reporting processes or ways of working.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, including the ability to gather user insights and translate complex requirements into practical recommendations.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate stakeholders, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing strategies, briefs, implementation plans, reports, guidelines and executive-level recommendations.
  • Sound judgement and political awareness when managing sensitive issues and reputational risks.
  • Experience using social media publishing, management, analytics, monitoring or archiving tools such as Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Meta Ads Manager, Brolly or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a complex, community-focused, government or public-sector environment.
  • Experience in digital transformation, service design, human-centred design, Double Diamond methodology, customer journey mapping, process mapping, business improvement or organisational change.
  • Understanding of public accountability, community expectations, governance and politically sensitive communications.
  • Experience developing social media author networks, training materials, user guides, moderation standards or escalation processes.
  • Experience establishing distributed content governance models.
  • Understanding of accessible, inclusive and multicultural communication practices across digital and non-digital channels.
