A leading Financial Services provider is seeking a Senior Observability Engineer with advanced Elastic, OpenTelemetry and AppDynamics experience to join their team on a permanent basis.

Joining a highly skilled engineering team, you will lead the organisation’s enterprise transition from AppDynamics to Elastic Observability using OpenTelemetry. You will be responsible for delivering scalable telemetry pipelines, modernising instrumentation standards and ensuring a smooth migration while maintaining or improving existing observability outcomes.

You will also drive the adoption of modern SRE practices, automate the deployment and validation of observability components, and create reusable patterns that enable engineering teams to access reliable, self-service observability capabilities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the end-to-end migration from AppDynamics to Elastic Observability
  • Designing OpenTelemetry-first instrumentation standards and scalable telemetry pipelines
  • Developing Elastic dashboards, service maps and monitoring capabilities across logs, metrics and traces
  • Driving the adoption of SLI/SLO-based monitoring and alerting practices
  • Automating the deployment and configuration of OpenTelemetry collectors and Elastic assets
  • Integrating observability validation into CI/CD pipelines

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant industry certifications
  • Extensive experience delivering observability solutions within large, complex enterprise environments
  • Deep AppDynamics APM knowledge, including migration and exit planning combined with expert knowledge of OpenTelemetry instrumentation and collector engineering
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Elastic Observability, including APM, logs, metrics, traces and service maps
  • Strong Kibana dashboard development and ES|QL query-writing skills
  • Hands-on automation experience using infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, APIs and scripting
  • Experience developing agentic AI capabilities would be highly regarded
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of a large enterprise
