We’re partnering with a leading enterprise organisation to recruit an experienced Security Network Engineer to join its Network & Security Engineering team.

This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on F5 load balancing, firewalls (Fortinet & Checkpoint) and network security, working across a large-scale, complex enterprise environment. You’ll have plenty of autonomy and will be expected to take ownership of issues, solve problems and work closely with teams across security, infrastructure, development and project delivery.

The Role

The position will be approximately 80% BAU engineering and operational support, alongside 20% project and improvement work.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support, engineer and enhance F5 BIG-IP load balancing environments
  • Manage and troubleshoot enterprise firewall technologies including Check Point and Fortinet
  • Support network security services including VPN, IPsec, SSL, segmentation and web security
  • Deliver F5, load balancing and broader network security improvements
  • Troubleshoot complex networking and infrastructure issues
  • Support secure integrations across network, infrastructure and application environments
  • Use automation and scripting to improve repeatable engineering and operational processes
  • Monitor network performance, security events and alerts
  • Work closely with Security, Infrastructure, Cloud, Development and project teams
  • Maintain technical documentation and work within established change and security processes

What We’re Looking For

You’ll ideally have 5+ years’ experience in network or security engineering, with a strong hands-on engineering background.

Essential experience includes:

  • F5 BIG-IP / load balancing – this is a key requirement
  • Enterprise firewall technologies such as Check Point, Fortinet or Palo Alto
  • Strong networking fundamentals across routing, switching, VLANs, TCP/IP and BGP
  • Network security technologies including VPN, IPsec, GRE, SSL and segmentation
  • Load balancing and traffic management
  • LAN, WAN and data centre networking
  • Automation or scripting using technologies such as Python, Ansible or Shell
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical issues
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working across technical and non-technical teams

Nice to Have

Experience across any of the following would be advantageous:

  • VMware NSX
  • Proxy / Secure Web Gateway technologies such as Zscaler
  • VMware and broader data centre infrastructure
  • SD-WAN
  • Monitoring and logging technologies such as Splunk, SNMP or NetFlow
  • Security monitoring and incident response
  • Broader infrastructure engineering experience
