Security Assessor

Cyber Security Assessor | Canberra | NV1 or NV2 Clearance | Contract until June 2027 | ASAP Start

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Assessor to join a Defence cyber security assessment and assurance team in a backfill position with an ASAP start requirement.
This role will support the assessment and articulation of cyber security risks across a broad range of Defence ICT environments, from standalone applications through to complex enterprise, tactical and strategic systems.

The Role
Working within a specialist cyber security assessment and assurance function, you will undertake security assessments and provide clear, evidence-based risk advice for senior stakeholders and risk owners.
Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting ICT system risk assessments and security certification activities
• Reviewing system architecture, security documentation and technical controls
• Developing comprehensive Certification and Risk Assessment Reports
• Conducting or supporting system vulnerability assessments and penetration testing activities
• Undertaking security product evaluations and supply chain risk assessments
• Assessing cyber security risks against Defence and Australian Government security requirements
• Providing practical security advice to programs, projects and system owners
• Supporting stakeholder engagement, risk triage and strategic security activities
• Identifying operational and security risks and recommending appropriate treatments
• Supporting assessment, assurance, reporting and administration
• Developing and maintaining cyber security procedures, guidance and training material
• Supporting knowledge transfer and capability uplift across Defence teams

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for candidates with strong experience in cyber security assessment, assurance and ICT risk, ideally within Defence, Federal Government or similarly complex environments.
Experience across the following will be highly regarded:

• ICT security risk assessments and certification
• Security controls assessment and technical security reviews
• Cyber security risk reporting for senior stakeholders
• Security architecture, system vulnerabilities and risk treatment
• Engaging with technical teams, project stakeholders and senior risk owners
• Australian Governmentcyber security frameworks and standards, including:
  • ISM
  • PSPF
  • DSPF
  • ACSC Essential Eight
  • NIST SP 800-53
  • ISO 27001

Candidates who can combine strong technical cyber security knowledge with the ability to clearly articulate system risks and recommendations in written assessment reports will be particularly well suited.

Essential Requirements

• Current NV1 or NV2 Australian Government Security Clearance
• Strong cyber security assessment, assurance and/or ICT security risk experience
• Ability to work within a Defence environment
