Talent International is partnering with a leading Australian enterprise to recruit an experienced Java API Engineer – AI & Test Automation for an exciting technology transformation program.

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-assisted software engineering, combining your Java and Spring Boot expertise with cutting-edge AI coding agents to transform how APIs are tested, maintained and upgraded.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technical leadership to build intelligent testing capabilities, strengthen automation and help establish modern engineering practices across a large-scale enterprise API environment.

This isn’t a traditional Java development role. We’re looking for an engineer who has already used AI coding agents in real-world development or testing environments and knows how to turn AI-generated code into reliable, production-ready outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • AI-Powered Test Automation: Use tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor or similar to generate, validate and improve automated API tests.
  • Java & Spring Boot Engineering: Work hands-on with Java, Spring Boot and microservices, supporting application maintenance, upgrades and optimisation.
  • API Testing: Develop and enhance unit, integration, contract and regression testing across enterprise APIs.
  • Automation & CI/CD: Improve testing pipelines, automate dependency updates and support modern engineering workflows.
  • Technical Problem-Solving: Resolve dependency conflicts, failed builds, testing issues and API compatibility challenges.
  • Continuous Improvement: Develop reusable testing frameworks, automation patterns and engineering best practices.
  • Team Collaboration: Share knowledge, contribute to technical decisions and support other engineers in adopting AI-assisted development practices.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience:

  • Recent hands-on experience using AI coding agents (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor or similar) to generate or maintain tests on production code.
  • Strong commercial experience with Java, Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
  • Proven expertise in automated API testing, including unit, integration, contract and regression testing.
  • Experience with testing tools such as TestKube, WireMock, Postman or Playwright.
  • Strong understanding of Maven or Gradle, Git, CI/CD pipelines and code reviews.
  • Experience managing Java/Spring Boot dependency upgrades and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.

Highly Regarded:

  • Renovate, Dependabot or similar dependency automation tools.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development workflows and reusable test frameworks.
  • Kafka, event-driven architecture and OpenAPI.
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise technology environments.
