Talent International is currently recruiting for an EL1 Assistant Director Strategic Policy to work for one of our Federal Government clients at one of its multiple office locations across NSW. The position is contract role till end of Dec with the possibility of extension. The role pays $602.55 per day + Super.

7.6 hours per day and 38 hours per week

The Role

As the Assistant Director – Strategic Policy, you will lead the development and implementation of significant reform projects. You will provide high-quality policy advice, manage key stakeholder relationships and translate complex issues into clear recommendations for senior executives and Ministers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and implementation of major reform projects.
  • Analyse complex policy issues and develop practical implementation recommendations.
  • Prepare high-quality papers, reports, presentations, briefings and correspondence.
  • Engage, influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead teams in developing policy and corporate documents.
  • Collect and analyse data to support evidence-based advice and recommendations.
  • Build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships.
  • Design, contribute to and lead stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Assess risks and apply sound judgement in a complex and changing environment.
  • Contribute to branch leadership and support a positive, high-performing team culture.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex issues into clear strategic advice for senior executives and Ministers.
  • Experience working at pace using structured or hypothesis-led problem-solving methods.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to communicate information and feedback clearly and confidently.
  • Ability to adapt to and lead changing priorities in a complex environment.
  • Proven ability to quickly establish productive stakeholder relationships.
  • Capacity to work independently with limited direction.

Desirable Experience

  • Program governance or project-planning experience.
  • Team leadership, mentoring or coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience within the disability reform sector.
  • Experience delivering complex procurement activities within a politically sensitive environment.
