CIAM Technical Lead

  • Stay hands-on with TypeScript while leading complex consumer identity engineering
  • 18-month contract + 18-month extension
  • Australian citizenship required | Must be able to obtain NV1 clearance

Take on a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and integrating large-scale Consumer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) solutions.

This is a software engineering role at its core. You’ll be writing code, reviewing solutions, troubleshooting difficult implementation problems and designing complex identity features, while also acting as a senior technical point of contact and mentor within an established engineering team.

You’ll work across JavaScript/TypeScript, OAuth 2.0, OIDC and enterprise CIAM platforms, with a strong focus on engineering-led customisation rather than configuration-only delivery. The successful candidate will bring advanced programming, testing and complex CIAM implementation experience.

The Role

As a CIAM Tech Lead, you’ll remain closely involved in development while providing technical leadership across complex consumer identity solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and customising CIAM solutions using JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Designing solutions for complex authentication, authorisation and identity challenges
  • Performing code reviews, automated testing and troubleshooting complex implementation issues
  • Integrating CIAM platforms with broader applications, APIs and cloud services
  • Mentoring engineers and helping uplift software engineering practices across the team

About You

We’re particularly interested in:

  • Recent, advanced JavaScript and TypeScript software engineering experience
  • Strong unit and integration testing capability, including frameworks such as Jest
  • Extensive hands-on experience implementing complex CIAM solutions using OAuth 2.0 and OIDC
  • Experience customising platforms such as Ping Advanced Identity Cloud / ForgeRock, Auth0, Okta or other Ping products
  • Experience working within mature DevOps environments, including CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers while remaining hands-on with technical delivery

Experience building or integrating cloud-based microservices across AWS, Azure or GCP would also be valuable.

Why Consider the Opportunity?

This is a good fit if you want technical leadership without moving away from software engineering.

You’ll work on complex consumer identity problems at scale, while still writing code, designing solutions and getting involved when the technical problems are difficult. There’s also a strong mentoring component, but you won’t be expected to operate as the sole senior engineer or move into a purely advisory position.
