Automation Engineer
Talent International has partnered with a major Australian organisation operating within a large-scale industrial manufacturing environment.
They are currently seeking an Automation Engineer to join the engineering team delivering a significant automation and control systems upgrade.
The role:
Working alongside experienced Principal and Senior Automation Engineers, you will support the engineering and delivery of automation work packages across a major upgrade program.
This is a broad, hands-on engineering role where you will contribute across the project lifecycle, from defining requirements and developing technical solutions through to testing, cutover and rectification.
The environment includes PLCs, industrial networks and HMI/SCADA systems, giving you exposure to a technically complex automation landscape and the opportunity to work closely with engineering, operations, vendors and external consultants.
You will be responsible for ensuring allocated engineering packages are delivered safely, effectively and in line with project scope, schedule and relevant engineering standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of automation engineering packages across a major industrial upgrade.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of PLC and HMI/SCADA solutions.
- Identify and define technical requirements, interfaces and work scopes for control system elements.
- Develop technical and performance specifications.
- Deliver engineering design outcomes directly and through external design partners.
- Support project scope development and engineering documentation.
- Work closely with internal engineering and operations teams, vendors and consultants.
- Assist with testing, system shadowing, cutover and rectification activities.
- Ensure engineering activities meet relevant safety, project and engineering standards.
- Support effective risk management across allocated work packages.
Skills & experience:
You will have:
- A degree in Computer, Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science; other relevant Engineering or IT qualifications, including Diploma qualifications, may also be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
Experience in the following would be highly regarded:
- Heavy industry or automated manufacturing.
- Brownfield projects or operational support environments.
- Practical electrical experience within industrial environments.
- PLC, RTU, I/O and IoT systems.
- Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Ethernet and IP networking.
- HMI/SCADA and historian applications.
- Windows, Linux and virtualisation.
- Active Directory.
- Databases and systems integration.
