AI Cloud Engineer

  • Location: Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide; initially onsite for two weeks – then hybrid
  • Baseline clearance required
  • Key experience: AI/ML platforms, Kubernetes, cloud engineering, Python and infrastructure as code

Help build and operate the platforms that support AI development across a major Australian Government technology program. You’ll work with data scientists, architects and security specialists to deliver secure, reliable AI capabilities that can improve services for Australians.

Your duties will include:

  • Design, build and improve AI/ML environments across on-premises, cloud and hybrid platforms.
  • Develop software, APIs and automation to support AI workloads and platform operations.
  • Build deployment pipelines and reusable infrastructure using code.
  • Support model training, deployment, monitoring and ongoing performance.
  • Apply security controls across containers, networks, data and software delivery.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and support releases into production.
  • Work with technical teams and stakeholders to turn requirements into practical solutions.

Skills and Experience we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated hands-on AI engineering experience, including building and operating AI/ML environments.
  • Strong Kubernetes and container experience, including secure deployment and monitoring.
  • Practical experience with AWS or Azure, ideally both, and relevant cloud AI services.
  • Python development, CI/CD and infrastructure as code experience using tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Experience with MLOps, model serving and generative AI tools, including LLMs or retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Sound knowledge of Linux, networking, APIs and security practices in complex environments.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to guide technical decisions. Relevant IT, computer science or AI qualifications will be highly regarded.
