Position Overview
An opportunity is available for two experienced Lead UX/UI Designers to support the ongoing improvement of complex digital products and services within a large Federal Government environment. Working at a senior level, you will help shape accessible, intuitive and user-centred experiences across both internal systems and citizen-facing digital services.

The role will involve working closely with users, product owners, business stakeholders and delivery teams to understand requirements, test ideas and translate complex needs into practical design solutions. A strong focus will be placed on accessibility, inclusive design and the continued development of scalable design standards.

Key Duties

  • Design low to high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes aligned with established system standards.
  • Rapidly iterate and validate design solutions based on user and stakeholder feedback.
  • Produce clear design documentation and annotations to support efficient development handover.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of scalable, accessible and user-centred design systems.
  • Define and document interaction models, visual principles, accessibility standards and UX best practices.
  • Facilitate co-design workshops with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan and facilitate usability testing with staff, service providers and end users.
  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product and business owners.
  • Conduct stakeholder engagement activities to support co-design of requirements and project outcomes.
  • Develop storyboards, process flows, sitemaps and other design artefacts.
  • Work with Business Analysts to capture and analyse data-related requirements.
  • Support stakeholder and governance approval of requirements and wireframes.
  • Contribute to project documentation including requirements specifications, process maps, service design artefacts and functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Deliver agreed design outputs in line with project schedules.

Skills and Experience Required

  • 3-5 years’ experience working as a UX/UI Designer.
  • Demonstrated experience eliciting UI/UX requirements through techniques such as workshops, brainstorming, prototyping, observation and interviews.
  • Contemporary knowledge of UX/UI methodologies and user-centred design practices.
  • Strong experience designing for accessibility requirements and WCAG guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong experience using Figma to design user flows, wireframes and prototypes.
  • Experience designing mobile applications and web portals will be highly regarded.
  • Experience contributing to or managing design systems will be advantageous.
  • A strong interest in accessible and inclusive design and development.
  • Australian Citizenship and the ability to hold or obtain a Baseline security clearance.
  • Ability to provide details of two referees as part of the application process.

Our client is a large values-focused Federal Government Agency seeking 2 x Lead UX/UI Designers (EL1 level) to design accessible, user-centred digital products and improve digital experiences for participants, providers and internal users.

This role will suit senior UX/UI Designers with strong Figma, prototyping, stakeholder engagement, co-design and accessibility experience.

ROLE DETAILS:
Location: Melbourne or Geelong VIC
Contract: 12 months + 12-month extension option
Working arrangement: Hybrid
Security: Must be able to obtain Baseline

ABOUT THE ROLE:
You’ll design wireframes, prototypes, user flows and service artefacts, contribute to the NDIS Design System, facilitate co-design workshops and usability testing, and work with stakeholders to gather requirements and achieve formal sign-off. The role focuses heavily on accessible, scalable and consistent user experiences across digital products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Experience eliciting UI/UX requirements through workshops, prototyping, observation, interviews or similar techniques.
  • Contemporary knowledge of UX/UI methodologies.
  • Experience designing to accessibility requirements and WCAG guidelines.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and presentation skills, including with senior stakeholders.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working as a UX/UI Designer.
  • Experience using Figma to design user flows, wireframes and prototypes.

Desirable: mobile app and web portal design experience, design system experience, and enthusiasm for accessible design and development.
