Backup & Storage Engineer

Location: Sydney or Newcastle
Salary: $150,000 incl. super
Experience: 4+ years’ experience

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Backup & Storage Engineer to join a high-performing infrastructure team supporting important environments. This role is ideal for someone with deep hands-on experience across Veeam, Azure Native Backup, cloud storage, and enterprise Dell storage platforms, who enjoys owning resilience, availability, and recovery outcomes end-to-end.

You’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising modern backup and storage solutions across on-prem and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

Backup & Recovery (Veeam)

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Veeam Backup & Replication across virtual, physical, and cloud workloads
  • Design and manage backup policies, schedules, retention, immutability, and copy jobs
  • Manage Veeam components including Backup Proxies, Repositories, WAN Accelerators, and Cloud Connect
  • Perform restores, SureBackup testing, and DR failover/failback activities
  • Integrate Veeam with VMware, Hyper-V, and cloud platforms
  • Troubleshoot backup failures, performance issues, and repository problems

Azure Native Backup & DR

  • Configure and manage Azure Backup Vaults and Recovery Services Vaults
  • Support backups for:
  • Azure Virtual Machines
  • Azure Files & Blob Storage
  • SQL workloads on Azure VMs
  • AKS clusters (where applicable)
  • improve storage using Hot, Cool, and Archive tiers, including immutable backups
  • Support Azure Site Recovery (ASR) for disaster recovery scenarios
  • Monitor backup health and SLAs using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics

Cloud Storage (Nexon)

  • Manage and configure Nexon Cloud / Nexon Managed Storage solutions
  • Provision storage volumes, shares, snapshots, and replication policies
  • Integrate cloud storage with Veeam, VMware, and Azure workloads
  • Monitor performance, utilisation, capacity growth, and compliance requirements

Dell Enterprise Storage

  • Support Dell EMC storage platforms including:
  • PowerStore
  • Unity
  • Isilon / PowerScale
  • SC Series (where applicable)
  • Perform LUN and volume provisioning, zoning, masking, and multipathing
  • Manage storage protocols: iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, SMB
  • Configure snapshots, replication (sync/async), tiering, and clones
  • Execute firmware upgrades, expansions, and performance tuning

Operations & Optimisation

  • Proactively monitor backup and storage environments
  • Identify performance, availability, and capacity risks
  • Support compliance, retention, and DR testing requirements
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and continuous improvement

Skills & Experience

  • 4-10 years’ experience in backup and storage engineering roles
  • Strong hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication
  • Proven experience with Azure Native Backup and Recovery
  • Enterprise storage experience, ideally Dell EMC platforms
  • Cloud storage exposure (Nexon or similar managed cloud storage solutions)
  • Strong troubleshooting and operational mindset
  • Experience in hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environments

A startup company within the prop-tech space, is looking to add a Software Engineering Manager to their growing team. Shaking up the commercial real estate space, their exciting product focuses on helping property owners and managers cut energy costs and emissions.

This role will be open for remote candidates located within the eastern time zone.

The Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage a group of 6-8 software engineers across multiple teams focused on different internal projects and tasks
  • Conduct regular check-ins and feedback sessions on areas of improvement around contributions to product they’re working on
  • Collaborate with Product Team on projects with engineers assigned to determine prioritization and team adjustments to meet task achievements and goals
  • Ensuring cross-team projects are properly scheduled for optimal delivery time on technical projects where you are the lead
  • Code reviews and discussions with engineers to ensure architectural implementation details
  • Evaluate severity of product bugs and technical issues to document impact and correct prioritization

Required Experience:

  • Programming experience with Go and React
  • 2+ Years of managing a team of at least 4 engineers
  • Experience with managing remote/off shore resources and team members
  • Experience interviewing and hiring engineers for a growing team
  • Has worked in a startup environment previously
