- Title: Director of Observability
- Location: Sydney (4 days in office, Fridays WFH – finish at 1pm)

The Opportunity
One of the world’s leading music company – home to the most iconic artists, labels, and creative teams on the planet are looking for a Director, Observability to shape and lead their global observability strategy from Sydney.
This is a unique opportunity to own the global observability vision across the business, working on both internal platforms to public-facing systems.
What You’ll Do:
As the Director, Observability, you’ll define and execute the global observability strategy. You’ll take ownership of established tools like Dynatrace, BigPanda, and OpenTelemetry, stabilise existing systems, and lead the next evolution toward automation, AI-driven insights, and proactive incident management.
- Set and execute a global observability strategy – aligning tools, processes, and people.
- Lead and grow a global team of engineers (Sydney, UK, US).
- Take stock and reset: Assess existing solutions, identify opportunities, and drive continuous improvement.
- Evangelise observability: Help developers, DevOps, and application teams understand its value and embed it into workflows.
- Bridge technical teams: Translate telemetry into meaningful insights for performance, reliability, and uptime.
- Champion innovation: Bring forward-thinking ideas around automation, AIOps, and predictive analytics.
Initially hands-on (around 60%), the role will evolve into strategic leadership as you build out the team and uplift global capability.
About You:
You’re a hands-on technical leader who thrives in transformation environments. You’re comfortable setting global direction but still enjoy getting deep into the tools, data, and code when needed.
- Proven experience leading global or distributed technical teams.
- Deep expertise in observability, monitoring, or SRE disciplines.
- Proficient with Dynatrace, BigPanda, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack.
- Strong understanding of AWS, GCP, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.
- Skilled in blending infrastructure monitoring with application performance insights.
- Excellent communicator – able to influence across technical and business stakeholders.
- Proactive, curious, and not afraid to challenge the status quo.
- Experience building or transforming an observability function will set you apart.
