We have partnered with an NSW Government client and they are seeking a Senior Network Engineer with a solid Aruba background to join their team on a 12m contract. You will play a crucial role in supporting the systems that keep their statewide operations running smoothly. The role plays the lead role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the district’s hybrid network.

In this role, you will

Propose, develop, and implement improvements, systems, and solutions to improve the LHD network and systems, ensuring system efficiency, minimising network downtime, and adhering to Service Level Agreements.

Administration and Management of Network Services, including but not limited to DNS, DHCP, Equipment and Environment Monitoring in a mixed vendor environment comprising of but not limited to HP/Aruba, Palo Alto, and Cisco.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive document library for the current network environment, ensuring data validity within the ICT CMDB. This includes fostering a positive team mindset regarding technical documentation, including mentoring and training team members.

Maintain a fit for a purpose network environment to meet current and future organisational needs via continuous monitoring, tracking, troubleshooting, and analysis of the district’s network infrastructure, systems, and data to prevent faults and downtime.

Develop, implement and manage networking and other ICT system security procedures to ensure alignment and compliance with industry best practices and client policies.

About you

Strong Aruba experience is essential for this role and relevant extensive industry experience in supporting and managing hybrid environments with vendors such as HP/Aruba, Cisco, Palo Alto.

Proven ability to manage, maintain and support a wide range of technologies and equipment, including but not limited to IP, VRF, Switching and Routing Protocols (Spanning Tree, LACP, VLAN, QoS, BGP, OSPF), Switch Stacking, DNS, DHCP & SSO.

Extensive experience designing scalable and resilient wired and wireless network infrastructure with expertise in planning, implementing, and managing large projects in a challenging mission-critical environment with experience identifying aspects of a complex network environment that require continuous improvements.

Experience with delivering IT services using a service management framework such as ITIL to provide capacity, availability, problem and incident management using a service-delivery mindset and customer experience focus.

Senior Technical Specialist – Transmission Core

Location: Sydney (On-site + Hybrid)
Engagement: Full-time
Roster: 24×7 rotating schedule

Salary: 125-150k base

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Specialist Transmission Core to ensure the performance, reliability, and availability of a national telecommunications network.
You’ll play a critical role in maintaining customer experience by leading technical resolution, operational governance, and collaboration across managed service partners, vendors, and engineering teams.

As part of a 24×7 operations environment, you’ll provide technical leadership and escalation management, particularly during major incidents or shifts where senior operational leaders are unavailable. You’ll also drive continuous improvement, automation, and quality across incident, problem, and change management functions.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead resolution of complex or high-severity network faults when escalated from managed service providers.
  • Provide expert technical direction during major incidents to ensure rapid service restoration.
  • Manage escalations and ensure clear communication with service management and customer stakeholders.
  • Drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and closure of major problems.
  • Support proactive fault reduction and network performance improvements.
  • Contribute to network design and technology evolution, ensuring operational readiness and scalability.
  • Validate and approve planned network changes and upgrades for quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, managed services, and vendor teams on operational improvements and strategy.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members and partners on new technologies and tools.
  • Act as the primary technical authority and decision-maker during assigned shifts.
  • Support automation initiatives (e.g., event correlation, incident response) to improve service outcomes.
  • Review and improve network monitoring and alarm configurations to enhance efficiency.
  • Represent the network operations function in technical and change review forums.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years’ hands-on experience in large-scale, multi-vendor IP and/or Carrier Ethernet environments.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Network protocols: BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, LDP, Segment Routing.
    • Layer 2 and 3 services: VPLS, Epipe, L3VPN, EVPN, QoS.
    • DWDM technologies: ROADM, TOADM, Optical Amplifiers, SyncE, and PTP.
  • Proven experience leading the resolution of high-severity and cross-domain technical incidents.
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication able to translate complex technical information for business and leadership audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously under pressure, make sound operational decisions, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Leadership capability in mentoring and guiding peers.
  • Familiarity with automation and orchestration tools in service assurance environments (highly regarded).
