Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Network Architect to lead the design and governance of secure, resilient network architectures supporting engineering and industrial operations. This role is critical to enabling reliable connectivity across corporate IT, operational technology (OT), and remote field environments.

The Network Architect will define standards and future-state designs for complex, geographically distributed networks, ensuring alignment with safety, availability, and security requirements typical of engineering and critical infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own enterprise and industrial network architecture across IT and OT environments
  • Architect secure Palo Alto firewall and Panorama solutions for site, data centre, and edge deployments
  • Lead design and optimisation of Juniper Mist wireless across corporate, operational, and field locations
  • Design network solutions for remote sites, substations, plants, and field operations
  • Establish standards for routing, switching, VPNs, segmentation, and secure remote access
  • Provide architectural leadership for IT/OT separation and convergence, aligned with industry best practices
  • Act as the escalation point for complex network incidents impacting operational systems
  • Lead network architecture input into engineering projects, upgrades, and technology refresh programs
  • Produce and maintain high-quality architecture diagrams, standards, and design documentation
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to network engineering teams

Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience designing and delivering network solutions in engineering, utilities, mining, or industrial environments
  • Deep expertise with Palo Alto Networks (firewalls, Panorama, segmentation, security policy)
  • Strong experience with Juniper networks, including Juniper Mist wireless
  • Proven ability to design high-availability, secure networks for operationally critical environments
  • Solid understanding of OT networking principles, industrial protocols, and operational risk
  • Experience working in safety-critical or high-reliability environments

Overview of the Position
Our client is seeking experienced Lead Network Security Engineers to support the operation, maintenance, and uplift of critical network infrastructure. This role requires individuals with a strong background in cyber security and network engineering, who are capable of assessing and improving network security architectures and configurations.

Duties

  • Planning, implementing, and operating network services/systems, including hardware and virtual environments.
  • Testing and maintaining network infrastructure, including software and hardware devices.
  • Providing feedback on network requirements, including network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Assessing complex information systems using contemporary security frameworks, toolsets, and knowledge of malicious actor techniques, tools, and processes.
  • Collaborating in a team environment to assess critical infrastructure systems and provide advice on hardening and defending systems against advanced threats.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in a Cyber role.
  • Ability to implement, maintain, assess, and recommend improvements to established network practices.
  • Proficiency in configuring and utilising computer protection components (e.g., hardware firewalls, servers, routers).
  • Capability to assess network security architectures and provide recommendations for improvement, including applying defence in depth in network design and configuration.
  • Experience in assessing network device configurations and providing recommendations to enhance network security.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing network communications.
  • Skills in computer networking concepts, protocols, and network security methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of IT security principles and methods (e.g., firewalls, demilitarised zones, encryption).
  • Experience using network management tools to analyse network traffic patterns and interpret collected information.

Senior Network Security Engineer - Financial Services

A leading Financial Services provider is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer with strong firewall (Fortinet and/or Juniper SRX) and F5 load balance expertise to join their team on an initial 12 month contract permanent basis.

Joining a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, this role will be responsible for the design of a range of project initiatives within their large, complex network. This will include designing new service patterns, strategy and roadmaps in relation to their network security environment, as well as creating pattern designs and blueprints and working with the engineering team in the deployment of the solution.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant vendor certifications
  • Demonstrated network engineering design experience gained within large, complex network environments
  • Advanced knowledge and experience designing, configuring, deploying and troubleshooting network security devices with superior knowledge and experience of firewalls (Fortinet and/or Juniper SRX) and F5 load balancers (LTM, GTM, APM, ASM)
  • Strong knowledge and experience of routing and switching including BGP, OSPF etc
  • Previous experience with IPS tools is highly regarded, along with experience writing Python scripts or using Ansible for automation
  • Superior troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently as required
