Talent International, a leading Australian recruitment firm, has been engaged by our long-standing client, a leading ASX-listed manufacturer, to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer.
This is a long-term contract opportunity supporting a growing engineering team on complex heavy-industry projects based in Wollongong.
Role Details
Role Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Contract Length: Initial 12 month contract
Location & WFH Flexibility: Wollongong | Hybrid (approx. 70% office / 30% site initially)
Daily Pay: Up to $110/hour
Role Overview
This role focuses on mechanical design and engineering support, working across brownfield projects within a multidisciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing existing designs and documentation, delivering new mechanical designs, and supporting both office-based and site activities.
The role is design-led (not purely drafting), with hands-on involvement across the full engineering lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical design and engineering support across heavy industrial projects
- Review and update existing drawings, designs, and technical documentation
- Produce mechanical designs in line with Australian Standards
- Support drafting activities where required (AutoCAD essential)
- Collaborate with structural, electrical, and drafting teams
- Interface with site teams and support site-based engineering activities
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and run with them independently
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer
- 5-10 years’ experience, ideally closer to 10 years
- Strong background in heavy industry or mining environments
- Proven experience delivering mechanical design work on brownfield sites
- AutoCAD experience is essential
- Familiarity with Australian Standards and Australian project environments
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience with materials handling systems
- Inventor experience
- Previous site-based engineering exposure
