We are currently looking for a Data Engineer for a permanent opportunity with a large mining technology client currently embarking on an extensive program to develop and deploy a software-as-a-service data and analytics solution for one of the leading mobile mining equipment manufacturers in the APAC region.

This permanent opportunity is based in Eight Miles Plains, Brisbane and offers 2 days WFH per week. You will work closely with business stakeholders to understand their goals and determine how the available data can be used to achieve those goals. In collaboration with technology development teams and 3rd party ecosystem partners, you will design data pipeline requirements and data modelling processes, create algorithms and predictive models to extract the information the business needs. Their Cloud environment is predominantly within AWS, but candidates with experience across other cloud solutions such as Azure will also be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing new data models and metrics creation
  • Assist in setting up their DevOps environment.
  • Data Pipeline and Data Warehouse design, in collaboration with technology development partners
  • Data Collection and Preparation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data from various sources. Develop data pipelines and ensure data quality and consistency for analysis.
  • Data Analysis and Modeling: Utilize advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze large datasets and identify patterns, trends, and anomalies. Build predictive models to optimize mining operations and equipment maintenance.
  • Visualization and Reporting: Create data visualizations and reports to communicate findings and insights to stakeholders, including management and operational teams. Develop interactive dashboards for real-time monitoring of mining processes.
  • Optimization and Efficiency: Work closely with engineers and mining experts to identify areas for improvement in operational efficiency of equipment. Collaborate on the development of algorithms and tools for automated decision support.

Requirements:

  • 2-3+ years of experience in a Data Engineering role
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with modern data warehousing such as Snowflake.
  • Experience with other languages (Python or R) is advantageous.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines
  • Experience with DevOps will be highly regarded.
  • Experience and an understanding of classic statistical and machine learning techniques (highly regarded)
  • Experience in business intelligence applications, including building dashboards i.e. Looker, Power BI, Tableau (highly regarded)
  • Experience with Snowflake, Airflow, AWS (EC2, S3) is desirable.

Role

  • Supporting the Scheme Actuary Division to fulfill statutory requirements including the provision of data and analysis for reporting to the Board, Minister and for the purpose of public data sharing
  • Utilising statistical and mathematical modelling techniques to undertake analytical work on a range of tasks, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projections and cost benefit analyses
  • Analysing Scheme experience as an input in the assumption setting process for the Scheme projections and other cost analysis.
  • Assisting in developing, maintaining and running the Scheme projection models (including scenario testing and stochastic modelling), public dashboards, deep dives, policy costings and risk assessment.

Requirements

  • Proficient in R and Excel (model design, development, and maintenance) some experience of GLMs or GBMs, excellent numerical ability, problem-solving aptitude, and proficiency in statistical modelling.
  • This position is within the professional job stream and the officer must possess relevant academic qualifications including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics/Statistics, progressing towards Associate and/or Fellowship qualifications.
  • Experience with internal and external stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Proficient communication and presentation of assumptions, methodologies, and results to stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
  • Proficient programming language skills such as experience with SAS, R, Python Visual Basic or SQL.
  • Some experience or knowledge of government processes (budget, legislation, policy development, briefs / documents)
  • Ability to understand and formulate policies, and good communication skills.
