The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer (Must have a Baseline OR NV1 AGSVA Defence Clearance) to join their Adelaide consulting team. This is an excellent opportunity to work with modern cloud technologies, solve complex data challenges, and deliver innovative solutions for enterprise clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable data pipelines using Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.
  • Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes using Python and SQL.
  • Work with large, complex datasets while improving performance and scalability.
  • Collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams to deliver business-focused data solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

About You

You’ll bring at least 5 years’ experience in Data Engineering, along with a strong consulting background and the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders. You’ll also have:

  • Experience with Azure, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Strong Python and SQL development skills.
  • Expertise in ETL/ELT processes and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, ingestion, integration and Medallion Architecture.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A client-focused consulting mindset.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with AWS, GCP or Snowflake.
  • Power BI or Tableau experience.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices within Data Engineering.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Previous consulting experience.
  • Current Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Baseline and/or NV1 Security Clearance.

We’re looking for a Senior Data Analyst with hands-on experience building a practical customer “golden record.” You’ll work with business and technical teams to define data standards and match/merge (survivorship) rules that improve quality and consistency across systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Run structured discovery sessions with business SMEs to understand how customer/client data is created, used, and interpreted.
  • Define a practical target structure for the golden record
  • Document data standards and rules (required fields, acceptable values, validation logic, edge cases)
  • Perform gap analysis across source systems to identify completeness/quality issues and inconsistencies
  • Design and support match/merge e.g matching on name + DOB with fallbacks, and conflict resolution across systems
  • Partner with data/CRM teams to validate rules, test outcomes, and iterate based on findings

In this pivotal role based in Melbourne, you will leverage your extensive expertise to rebuild and enhance spreadsheet-based liquidity reporting processes, with a primary focus on APS 210 requirements. Collaborating across Treasury, Finance, Risk, Data, and Compliance teams, you will develop innovative solutions to improve reporting accuracy, control standards, and operational efficiency. Your insights will help strengthen the organisation governance framework while supporting ongoing regulatory change initiatives.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience with APS 210 liquidity reporting within an Australian banking or regulated financial environment
  • Over 10 years of experience in liquidity, regulatory, or treasury reporting, or related disciplines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, data validation, and spreadsheet control enhancement
  • Proven track record in rebuilding or improving liquidity/regulatory reporting spreadsheets
  • Strong understanding of liquidity risk, compliance standards, and control frameworks
  • Excellent data management skills, including troubleshooting data issues and improving data quality
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements, automate manual activities, and reduce operational risks
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills across Treasury, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Technology, and senior leadership
  • High attention to detail and analytical acumen to deliver accurate, timely reports under tight deadlines

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience supporting automation and digital transformation of reporting processes
  • Familiarity with similar liquidity reporting functions outside of banking
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting frameworks beyond APS 210

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of direct experience in liquidity or regulatory reporting, risk management, or treasury within a regulated financial environment

Other Requirements:

They are building an enablement-led Data, Insights & AI function that will provide trusted enterprise data foundations, governed analytics, safe AI capability and self-service enablement across the business.
This role will own the engineering platform that underpins every downstream analytics, reporting and AI capability.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You’ll remain close to the platform, designing pipelines, reviewing code, improving reliability and solving production issues while setting the standards, operating rhythm and engineering discipline that allow a small but growing team to scale safely.

Required Skills:

  • Significant hands-on experience operating production data platforms, ideally including Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake and Unity Catalog, or equivalent cloud-native data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Snowflake or AWS data services
  • Strong experience across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, deployment and operational support of enterprise data platforms
  • Proven experience designing and scaling medallion-style data architectures across bronze, silver and gold layers, or equivalent layered data modelling patterns
  • Strong Python and SQL skills
  • Comfortable working with CI/CD, GitHub or Azure DevOps, version control and modern engineering workflows
  • Experience setting engineering standards across ingestion, transformation, testing, observability, deployment and code review
  • Strong understanding of platform reliability, including SLAs, incident response, runbooks, monitoring and post-incident improvement
  • Experience leading small but growing technical teams with a coaching-led, hands-on leadership style
  • Ability to review technical designs, challenge trade-offs and act as the technical authority for the data platform
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Commercial awareness around platform cost, cloud usage, workload right-sizing and cost transparency

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience working in financial services or another regulated environment
  • Exposure to FinOps practices for cloud data platforms, particularly Azure or Databricks
  • Familiarity with AI/ML production platform patterns such as MLflow, model registry or feature stores
  • Experience with data product thinking, data contracts and certified datasets
  • Experience working closely with analytics, governance, architecture, information security and risk teams
  • Databricks, Azure, data engineering or cloud certifications
