Role
To work within a distributed national team to manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The team is responsible for the development,
maintenance, and support of our on-premises private cloud platform, which spans multiple data centres and incorporates Red Hat OpenStack for compute, Red Hat Ceph for storage, and the underlying physical infrastructure. This role will contribute to both business-as-usual operations and ongoing platform enhancements.

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for Red Hat OpenStack and Ceph clusters in a production environment.
  • Automate routine maintenance, upgrade, and deployment activities using tools such as Ansible, Python, and Bash.
  • Identify areas for improvement and independently deliver platform enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain clear and concise documentation to support operational continuity.
  • Transfer technical knowledge to permanent staff through structured handovers and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated senior level experience deploying, administering and supporting enterprise scale on-prem production environments within a RedHat OpenStack environment (5-10+ years experience)

  • Strong Agile and DevOps experience, CI/CD, Infrastructure As Code, containers (EKS, AKS, and Kubernetes)
  • Solid government experience, and strong understanding of policies, security, standards and principles demonstrated within an Australian Government environment (ITSM, ASD blueprints, CIS benchmarking, E8, etc.)
  • Knowledge in managing, preventing, and responding to cloud outages, DR, site reliability, etc.
  • Exceptional business engagement and communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with execs, technical teams, and the wider business
  • Ability to coach and mentor other architects and technical specialists
  • TOGAF certified or equivalent IT architectural qualification, and relevant tertiary qualifications
