Senior VMware Design Engineer

Location: North Sydney – Hybrid (Office/WFH)
Contract: 6 months initial (strong potential for extension)
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior VMware Design Engineer to join a virtualisation design team supporting a live production environment. This senior, hands-on role involves VMware infrastructure design, migrations, upgrades, patching, and automation, working closely with existing SMEs and client teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and manage VMware infrastructure (vSphere, NSX-T, VCF).

  • Perform hardware migrations, upgrades, and patching in live production environments.

  • Develop automation workflows and scripts using vRA, vROps, Terraform, Python, or JavaScript.

  • Collaborate with application, security, network, and datacentre teams for automated provisioning.

  • Review and maintain scripts and workflows, ensuring quality and best practices.

  • Identify automation opportunities and support self-service portals and operational environments.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 7+ years VMware experience with core vSphere mandatory.

  • NSX configuration experience.

  • Hands-on experience with migrations, upgrades, and patching.

  • Strong client-facing and communication skills.

  • Able to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to vRA, vROps, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools.

  • VMware Cloud Foundation and NSX-T design experience.
