UI Designer
APS6 UI Designer – Federal Government | 12-Month Contract | Sydney (Hybrid)
We are seeking an experienced APS6 UI Designer to join a major Federal Government digital and analytics program. This role plays a key part in improving accessibility, usability, and consistency across data-driven web products that support essential national services.

About the Role
As the UI Designer, you will work within a multidisciplinary team responsible for building enterprise reporting and analytics products. You will create wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes and UI assets while ensuring all outputs are accessible, user-friendly and aligned with established design standards.
Working closely with developers, data specialists and end-users, you will translate complex information into intuitive visual experiences and champion accessibility at every step of the design process.
Key Responsibilities

Develop wireframes, user flows, sitemaps, prototypes and UI mock-ups that communicate design concepts clearly.

Design and refine data visualisations, dashboards and web-based reporting products.

Ensure all designs meet WCAG accessibility requirements and agency style guidelines.

Identify, analyse and resolve UI/UX problems, focusing on usability and inclusivity.

Conduct user engagement sessions and usability testing to validate design decisions.

Produce development-ready assets, including layout standards, component specs and style resources.

Collaborate closely with data teams to deliver meaningful and accurate visual interfaces.

Provide input into team practices, contributing to continuous improvement across design processes.
About You
You’re a UI/UX Designer with strong experience across data-driven products, accessibility, and front-end collaboration. You’re comfortable engaging with end-users, working through iterative feedback, and creating polished, consistent UI outputs that support smooth development and delivery.
Essential Criteria

Minimum 3 years’ experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.

Strong portfolio demonstrating UI/UX capability and accessible design.

Experience designing highly accessible web applications.

Ability to create assets suitable for web application development.

Experience engaging with end-users to inform design decisions.

Strong data literacy and experience working with data teams.
Desirable

Familiarity with React-based applications.

Familiarity with SAS Visual Analytics.
