Work Pattern: Rotating shift roster, including morning, afternoon, and night
Start: Immediate or As soon as possible
Salary: $120k-150k base

About the Role

The Transmission Core Technical Specialist Carrier Ethernet plays a critical role in ensuring the high performance, availability, and reliability of the network by performing key operational processes and providing technical governance across change, problem, and incident management. The role is essential to maintaining an outstanding customer experience and includes oversight of service assurance activities delivered by suppliers.

Operating within a Tier 2 Network Operations team, the specialist provides 24×7 support on a rotating roster based in the Network Operations Centre in Macquarie Park. Beyond resolving complex technical issues and mentoring less experienced team members, the role requires strong collaboration with managed service providers, equipment vendors, and internal engineering teams to support network strategies, solution onboarding, and ongoing operational improvements.

What you’ll do:

      • Rapidly resolve complex faults escalated beyond the Managed Service to minimise customer impact and manage critical incident escalations.
      • Lead Problem Management activities, including root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and coordination with suppliers and vendors to address recurring network issues.
      • Protect revenue and improve customer experience by reducing fault rates and enhancing the reliability of the Transport network.
      • Contribute to network expansion, upgrades, and the introduction of new technologies/products by advising on design improvements and providing approvals aligned with service quality standards.
      • Guide business partners on network architecture and ensure supportability of new solutions, participating as a Subject Matter Expert in Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews.
      • Analyse network performance data, support automation initiatives, and drive service improvements through alarm tuning, event correlation, and input to tools strategy.
      • Manage technical training, security access certification, and collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives with Engineering, Vendors, and Managed Service Suppliers.

What we’re looking for:

      • Relevant professional qualifications in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related Science field.
      • Extensive hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting multi-vendor IP and/or Carrier Ethernet networks (Nokia, Cisco, Huawei) in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 environment.
      • Deep technical knowledge of IP and/or Carrier Ethernet network protocols and technologies including BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, LDP, Segment Routing, and related control/data plane mechanisms.
      • Solid understanding of Layer 2 services (VPLS, Epipe, etc.) and Layer 3 services (L3VPN, EVPN), along with Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms.
      • Experience with network automation tools such as Python and Ansible is highly desirable.
      • Vendor certifications (e.g., CCNP, NRS II) are desirable.
      • Demonstrable experience supporting multi-vendor technologies in high-paced operational settings, including incident resolution and escalation.
      • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and non-technical business partners.

What’s in it for you:

      • Supportive team and office environment, with vibrant campus life and facilities including restaurants, cafes, gymnasium, GP, and post office.
      • Inclusive carer-neutral paid parental leave of up to 16 weeks.
      • Competitive leave including 2 ‘Connected Leave’ days.
      • Access to resources, webinars, and support through internal employee portals.
      • Own your growth through an extensive online and facilitator-led learning catalogue.
      • Connect at work through employee-led volunteer groups focused on culture, wellbeing, diversity, and professional development.
