Transmission Core Technical Specialist- Carrier Ethernet

Location: Sydney (100% on-site)
Work Pattern: Rotating shift roster (morning, afternoon, night)
Start: Immediate or As soon as possible
Salary: $120k-150k base

Are you ready to be at the heart of a high-performance network, ensuring seamless connectivity for thousands of customers? We’re looking for a Transmission Core Technical Specialist Carrier Ethernet to join a flexible Tier 2 Network Operations team.

This role is critical for maintaining network reliability, performance, and availability by managing complex operational processes, overseeing service assurance, and collaborating with vendors, managed service providers, and internal engineering teams.

What you’ll do:

  • Rapidly resolve complex network faults and manage critical incident escalations.
  • Lead Problem Management activities including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Reduce fault rates and improve network reliability to enhance customer experience.
  • Contribute to network expansion, upgrades, and new technology introduction by advising on design improvements.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in network architecture, providing approvals and participating in Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews.
  • Analyse network performance, support automation initiatives, and drive continuous service improvements.
  • Manage technical training, security access certification, and collaborate on operational excellence initiatives with vendors and suppliers.

What we’re looking for:

  • Professional qualifications in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related Science field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in maintaining and troubleshooting multi-vendor IP and/or Carrier Ethernet networks (Cisco, Nokia, Huawei) in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 environment.
  • Deep knowledge of IP and/or Carrier Ethernet protocols and technologies including BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, LDP, Segment Routing, and related control/data plane mechanisms.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 services (VPLS, Epipe, etc.) and Layer 3 services (L3VPN, EVPN), with QoS knowledge.
  • Experience with network automation tools (Python, Ansible) highly desirable.
  • Vendor certifications (e.g., CCNP, NRS II) are a plus.
  • Proven experience supporting multi-vendor technologies in busy operational environments, including incident resolution and escalation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
