Transition / Projects Engineering Manager

Confidential Defence Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Transition / Projects Engineering Manager (PEM) to support capability acquisition, transition and Introduction Into Service (IIS) activities within a complex Defence environment.

This is a senior engineering role requiring someone who can bridge the gap between acquisition and sustainment, ensuring new and modified capabilities are transitioned into service with the appropriate engineering assurance, safety, certification, supportability and governance arrangements in place.

Security Clearance

A current NV1 security clearance is mandatory for this position. Candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered.

The Role

This is not a traditional project engineering or technical design position. The successful candidate will operate as a trusted senior engineering representative, working across project delivery, engineering, logistics, sustainment and stakeholder communities.

You will be responsible for identifying and managing technical risks, influencing project outcomes and supporting informed capability decisions throughout acquisition, transition and sustainment.

The role requires someone who can confidently engage with Defence stakeholders, interpret engineering and sustainment impacts, develop transition and assurance documentation, and support the safe and effective introduction of capabilities into service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Defence capability acquisition, transition and Introduction Into Service activities
  • Provide engineering management, governance and technical assurance across capability delivery
  • Prepare and review engineering and project artefacts, including Engineering Management Plans, Risk Assessments, Safety Case Reports, Technical Certification Plans and Transition Plans
  • Support engineering change management, certification and acceptance activities
  • Conduct technical investigations, analyse outcomes and provide recommendations to Defence stakeholders
  • Support engineering inspections, testing, evaluation and acceptance activities
  • Manage technical risks and ensure appropriate engineering assurance throughout capability delivery
  • Assess sustainment requirements and in-service support impacts associated with capability transition
  • Engage with Defence representatives, project teams, military units, industry partners and engineering stakeholders
  • Support capability decision making from acquisition through transition and into sustainment

About You

You will be a senior engineering professional with demonstrated Defence experience, ideally across capability acquisition, transition, sustainment or Introduction Into Service.

You will bring:

  • Strong Defence engineering management and leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience with engineering governance and technical assurance within a Defence environment
  • Experience supporting capability acquisition, transition and/or Introduction Into Service
  • Strong understanding of engineering change, certification, acceptance and technical risk management
  • Experience developing and reviewing engineering governance, assurance and transition documentation
  • An understanding of sustainment and in-service support requirements
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across Defence, military, engineering and industry environments
  • The ability to operate autonomously as a senior engineering representative and trusted adviser

Highly Desirable

  • Maritime systems experience
  • Degree qualification in Engineering
  • CPEng and/or RPEQ accreditation
  • Previous experience within a Systems Program Office, CASG or similar Defence capability environment
  • Experience operating within Defence engineering governance and technical authority frameworks

Important

Our client is specifically seeking candidates with established Defence engineering experience, particularly across engineering leadership, governance, capability transition and stakeholder engagement.

Candidates whose backgrounds are primarily focused on technical design, PMO support or project coordination without the required Defence engineering experience are unlikely to be suitable.

A current NV1 security clearance is a mandatory requirement. Candidates without this clearance will not be considered.
