
Technical Officer TO3
Working within Reporting, Information and Digital Solutions (RIDS), the successful candidate will be part of the Independent Onboard Monitoring (IOM) Team that will assist the implementation of the IOM program across the East Coast Otter Trawl Fishery (ECOTF), and the management of the IOM program across the Gillnet (NX) fishery, including training, footage review, engagement and general education.
As part of this opportunity, the successful candidate will be required to perform the following:
* Liaising with stakeholders and supporting the delivery of training and support services related to IOM, e-reporting and TEP engagement.
* Troubleshooting various e-monitoring and reporting system issues remotely and onboard vessels.
* Support with the installation of e-monitoring equipment consistent with approved processes and program objectives.
* Support with the design and development of documentation and communication materials related to the IOM program, e-reporting and TEP engagement.
* Provide technical input for project meetings and draft technical documentation and reports such as vessel monitoring plans and operational procedures.
* Support the delivery of the NX IOM program including the review of camera footage, validation of logbooks records and implementation of operational procedures.
* Maintain familiarity with various fishing vessels, operations, and installed camera systems.
* Manage confidential Information.
* You will be a part of a team of 7 people working between Brisbane and Cairns. The team structure includes 1 x Manager, 2 x Principal Project Officers, 2 x Project Officers and 2 x Technical Officers. The team is split across two major fisheries being trawl and gillnet but the team work together on key tasks across those fisheries.
* You will be reporting to a Project Manager and work across both the IOM team and the stakeholder engagement team of RIDS.
* The role will involve travelling and face-to-face stakeholder engagement across major ports of the Queensland east coast teaching commercial fishers how to use electronic reporting applications and e-monitoring systems.
* The role requires good stakeholder engagement skills.
Highly Desirable to this role are:
* Tertiary education, such as a TAFE course or Bachelor’s Degree, related to marine or environmental science.
* Experience with digital monitoring and reporting methods.
* Experience working with, or an understanding of, Queensland’s commercial fisheries.
* Drivers Licence.
