Technical Lead - Utility Metering Upgrade

Role Purpose

To provide technical leadership and oversight for a major AMI Head End System (HES) upgrade program. The role focuses on technical decision-making, solution design reviews, and delivery assurance while managing vendor relationships and internal technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Oversight: Provide leadership for the modernization and upgrade of the AMI Head End System platform.

  • Vendor Management: Conduct design reviews and solution validations, ensuring vendors meet all technical commitments.

  • Complex Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues across the application, Linux operating system, infrastructure, and integration layers.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Build evidence-based cases to determine if technical problems originate from vendor products, internal IT infrastructure, or configuration.

  • Architecture & Design: Make authoritative decisions regarding solution design, integration approaches, and platform architecture.

  • Team Coordination: Oversee internal technical workstreams including development, testing, and system integration.

  • Risk Management: Assess technical risks and ensure all solutions meet operational and regulatory requirements.

Required Background

  • Experience: 8+ years of technical leadership within complex, multi-layered enterprise environments.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong Linux operating system skills and experience managing software dependencies.

  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to perform root cause analysis across application, middleware, and infrastructure stacks.

  • Transformation: Deep understanding of enterprise system integration, data migration, and platform modernization.

  • Communication: Ability to translate complex technical issues for management while maintaining credibility with technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AMI/metering systems is highly desirable.

  • Candidates from Utilities, Telco Network Systems (OSS/BSS), or Industrial SCADA environments will be highly regarded.

  • Experience specifically managing the technical aspects of major vendor-led upgrades.
