An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Technical Certification Engineer to join a highly specialised aviation engineering environment supporting advanced military aircraft capability development and sustainment.

As a senior engineering advisor, you will provide specialist expertise across aircraft certification, airworthiness compliance, systems engineering, and configuration management. Working closely with aviation stakeholders, you will play a key role in supporting capability upgrades, certification activities, and the ongoing safe operation of complex aircraft systems.

The Opportunity

This role will see you providing technical leadership and engineering advice across the full engineering lifecycle, with a strong focus on certification, compliance, airworthiness, and risk management.

You will collaborate with Defence, industry, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure aircraft modifications, upgrades, and configuration changes meet applicable certification and airworthiness requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support aircraft certification activities associated with configuration, hardware, and software changes.
  • Plan and coordinate Type Certification activities to support capability upgrades and maintain certification status.
  • Review and assess airworthiness documentation, compliance evidence, and certification artefacts.
  • Prepare and maintain certification documentation including compliance checklists, configuration control records, and airworthiness issue papers.
  • Provide engineering advice across requirements development, design, integration, verification and validation, and test and evaluation activities.
  • Identify, assess, and manage engineering risks, issues, and system safety considerations.
  • Support engineering governance, configuration management, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Contribute to reliability, maintainability, and system safety assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams where required.

About You

You are an experienced aviation engineer with a strong background in aircraft certification and airworthiness. You enjoy working in technically complex environments and can confidently provide clear, risk-based engineering advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in aircraft certification and airworthiness compliance.
  • Experience with Type Certification, Configuration Management, and certification frameworks such as MIL-HDBK-516C.
  • Strong understanding of the engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, design, integration, verification and validation, and system safety.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing certification documentation, compliance evidence, risk assessments, and airworthiness issue papers.
  • Ability to assess technical risks and provide practical engineering recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation capabilities.

Security Requirements

  • Current NV2 (Negative Vetting Level 2) Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
