  • Up to AU$0.00 per annum

System Administrator | Secure Infrastructure & Mission-Critical Operations (APS6-EL1)

  • Location: ACT (Onsite)
  • Security Clearance: NV2 Security Clearance (Mandatory) | TSPV / TSPA / PV (Preferred)
  • Contract Length: 12 months + 2 × (12-month extensions – Based on the discretion of the Department)
  • Engagement Type: Multiple roles | Merit pool for future requirements

About the position:

This opportunity spans multiple System Administrator positions operating within the same secure infrastructure environment, covering APS6 to EL1 equivalent seniority. The work supports mission-critical systems across physical, virtual, network, and cloud platforms where reliability, availability, and security are essential

Both levels remain hands-on. The distinction sits in scope, ownership, and decision accountability, not in tooling. APS6 roles focus on execution and operational support, while EL1 roles carry broader responsibility for system outcomes, delivery coordination, and continuous improvement.

What you’ll do:

  • Install, operate, maintain, and retire complex infrastructure within secure environments
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve system and network issues to maintain service continuity
  • Analyse performance, availability, and reliability against agreed service levels
  • Contribute to or lead infrastructure changes, maintenance routines, and improvement initiatives

What we are looking for:

  • Experience administering enterprise infrastructure in secure or regulated environments
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across systems, networks, and platform components
  • Experience analysing service performance and driving remediation or optimisation
  • Ability to work calmly and methodically within structured operational frameworks

Seniority fit:

  • APS6-equivalent candidates typically focus on operational delivery, issue resolution, automation support, and day-to-day system management
  • EL1-equivalent candidates typically own system outcomes end-to-end, lead installation or uplift activities, manage workflows, and influence operational decisions
  • At both levels, hands-on technical credibility is essential

Technology & environment:

  • Enterprise infrastructure across physical, virtualised, networking, and cloud platforms
  • Operating systems, networking, database management, and security protocols
  • Infrastructure monitoring, management tools, and automation scripting
  • Defence-aligned ICT environments with strict security and operational controls

A quick note before you apply:

  • These roles operate inside established, production ICT environments with clear operational expectations from day one
  • If your recent experience has been primarily advisory or removed from direct system ownership, this may not align with what the team needs right now
  • Relevant Diploma or Bachelor qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
  • An active NV2 security clearance is required; clearance sponsorship or upgrades aren’t available for this engagement
  • Appointment is subject to an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) to confirm alignment with the operating environment
