Senior Synapse & Data Lake Automation Tester

We are seeking a Senior Data Platform Automation Tester to lead testing across modern data lake and analytics platforms. This role focuses on ensuring quality, performance, and operational readiness of large-scale data solutions through strong test leadership, automation, and governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver risk-based test strategies aligned to delivery milestones

  • Lead end-to-end test execution, defect triage, UAT coordination, and quality sign-off

  • Validate data pipelines including ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers

  • Ensure data quality, integrity, lineage, and SLA compliance

  • Plan and interpret performance and load testing for data platforms

  • Build and maintain automated testing frameworks integrated into CI/CD pipelines

  • Implement operational readiness practices including monitoring, alerts, runbooks, and rollback testing

  • Provide clear status reporting and risk communication to technical and senior stakeholders

  • Proactively identify platform risks such as schema drift, data freshness, and scalability issues

Required Skills & Experience

  • Senior-level experience testing data lake, warehouse, or analytics platforms

  • Strong expertise in risk-based testing, test governance, and UAT management

  • Hands-on experience with test automation, frameworks, and reusable test patterns

  • Ability to validate data quality rules (completeness, accuracy, timeliness, uniqueness)

  • Experience using SQL and Python for data validation and automation

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and treating tests as code

  • Strong stakeholder communication and systems-thinking mindset

Desirable

  • Experience with Synapse, Spark, or similar analytics platforms

  • Performance and cost optimisation awareness in large data environments

  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and runtime health checks
