Strategic Workforce Planner/Consultant
- 6-month contract | Auckland Central
- Complex transformation programme
- Workforce planning | Organisational design | Future role architecture
Are you a strategic workforce planning or organisational design specialist who can turn workforce data into a clear, practical future workforce plan?
We are seeking an experienced Strategic Workforce Planning Consultant to support a significant transformation programme within a complex higher education environment.
This is not a traditional Workforce Analyst role. There is already workforce analytics capability in place. The focus of this contract is to take existing workforce data, current-state role information and business inputs, then translate that into a practical view of what the future workforce should look like.
You will help shape workforce planning for the first phase of the programme, including future role architecture, capability requirements, workforce mapping and transition pathway options for priority groups.
About the role
Working closely with HR Shared Services, HR/OD stakeholders, project teams and business analysis capability, you will help develop workforce planning outputs that support decision-making across a broader transformation programme.
This role will suit someone who is comfortable working with ambiguity, can make sense of partial or imperfect data, and is confident turning complex workforce information into clear recommendations.
Key focus areas
- Identify current roles that may be impacted by the future-state model
- Map current roles against future workforce requirements
- Define future role architecture, including roles that may remain, evolve, emerge or phase out
- Develop capability and competency frameworks for future roles
- Build workforce transition pathways and initial options for priority groups
- Provide input into position description reviews and role mapping
- Develop a high-level strategic workforce plan and workforce map
- Support recruitment checkpoint processes and transition decision-making
- Engage with senior leaders, HR/OD teams and project stakeholders
Key deliverables
- Strategic workforce plan
- Workforce map
- Future role architecture
- Initial transition options and pathways
- Input into recruitment checkpoints and transition decision frameworks
Experience with workforce data, TechnologyOne HR/P, Power BI or Excel would be useful, but this is not a reporting-focused role. The real value is your ability to interpret workforce information and turn it into a clear, practical plan for the future.
What will make you successful
You will be a structured thinker, strong communicator and confident facilitator who can work across HR, OD, project and senior stakeholder groups.
You will be comfortable asking good questions, challenging assumptions and bringing clarity to complex workforce planning conversations.
