Senior Systems Engineer - Software Design
Our client is a major federal government body who is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer – Software Design to support a major national program delivering and enhancing the National Technical Monitoring (NTM) system. This role will focus on software platforms, infrastructure, and system design within a complex, mission-critical environment.
You will work closely with engineering teams, vendors, and stakeholders to design and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient system platforms.
This is a 2-year fixed-term contract offering a competitive salary and annual bonus. To be eligible, you must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain Baseline security clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and support software infrastructure and system platforms
- Manage and maintain virtualised environments (VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
- Implement secure and resilient system architectures
- Support disaster recovery, cybersecurity and access control frameworks
- Investigate and resolve system issues across applications and infrastructure
- Develop and maintain system documentation, standards and architecture artefacts
- Lead system upgrades, improvements and technical initiatives
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and oversight across teams
- Support system security controls and compliance requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement and platform modernisation
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or related discipline
- Must be an Australian Citizen and eligible for Government Security Clearance
- Proven experience in software engineering, systems design or infrastructure engineering
- Strong experience with Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy
- Experience with VMware technologies (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
- Strong understanding of infrastructure, networking and system integration
- Experience designing secure, scalable and highly available platforms
- Programming capability in Python, C++ or similar languages
- Strong troubleshooting skills across systems, networks and applications
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work across multiple teams and manage stakeholders
- Strong documentation and communication skills
Highly Regarded
- Experience working with SCADA or operational technology environments
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g. ISM)
- Experience supporting legacy systems or complex integrations
- Exposure to large-scale transformation or infrastructure programs
