Position Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Project Officer to support the delivery of strategically significant, technically focused programs within a complex government environment. Operating at the APS6 equivalent level, this role provides essential administrative, financial and governance support across a portfolio of projects, contributing to effective program coordination, reporting and oversight. Working within a structured project environment, the Senior Project Officer will engage with diverse stakeholders and support program leadership to ensure high-quality, timely and compliant project outcomes.

Key Duties

  • Assist with program and project planning activities, including drafting program artefacts.
  • Support budget management and procurement activities, providing financial advice and guidance.
  • Prepare program reports, dashboards and management artefacts to support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain registers, access controls and quality processes to ensure strong administrative governance.
  • Manage program documentation, ensuring accurate record keeping within the Electronic Document and Records Management System.
  • Maintain and review program and project risk registers, schedule reviews and facilitate risk discussions.
  • Investigate issues of medium complexity and prepare briefing materials for senior executives.
  • Prepare governance packs for boards and provide secretariat support.
  • Deliver accurate, timely and high-quality work within established timeframes.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience supporting project, program or portfolio offices within a government environment.
  • Proven ability to assist with financial management, procurement processes and budget tracking.
  • Strong reporting capability, including preparation of dashboards and governance documentation.
  • Experience maintaining risk registers and supporting risk management processes.
  • Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including records management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to varied stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
