
Senior Project Officer
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Project Officer to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex Defence projects. This role is a key position within a multidisciplinary team, responsible for driving project outcomes aligned with national security objectives.
You will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met within scope, budget, and schedule. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to Australia’s Defence capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-level project support across multiple Defence initiatives, ensuring compliance with governance frameworks and Defence policy.
- Coordinate project planning, scheduling, reporting, and risk management activities.
- Monitor project performance and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders.
- Prepare briefings, reports, and documentation for internal and external audiences.
- Liaise with stakeholders including Defence contractors, government agencies, and industry partners.
- Identify process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in contract management and procurement processes in accordance with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs).
About You
- Proven experience in project management or coordination in a Defence or government environment.
- Strong knowledge of Defence project governance and capability lifecycle (e.g., CASG, ICP, DCP).
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to analyse complex information and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to working in a security-sensitive environment.
Essential Criteria
- Australian Citizenship (Mandatory)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (NV1 or above)
- Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a project or program support role.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience using project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Jira).
- PRINCE2, AgilePM, or PMP certification.
