  • 12 months initial contract; with possible extension
  • Adelaide, South Australia or Darwin, Northern Territory Based Position

You will spearhead significant policy initiatives, focusing on strategic alignment with priorities and outcomes for communities. Your responsibilities will include assessing risks, synthesizing evidence to provide advice, and representing the department in discussions. This role is essential in shaping government responses to emerging issues and challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, Develop, implement, and evaluate public policies, particularly in a First Nations context.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform evidence-based policy advice.
  • Identify emerging issues and propose innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Align policy initiatives with government priorities and departmental objectives.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-quality written materials, including reports and ministerial correspondence.
  • Manage projects or policy initiatives, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Understand and comply with government decision-making processes.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating complex public policies.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and familiarity with synthesizing diverse data and evidence.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in risk assessment and developing practical policy solutions.
  • Ability to lead policy projects and manage competing priorities efficiently.
  • Knowledge of governmental procedures and decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, political science, economics, law, or a related field (desirable).
  • Experience in a strategic policy role within the public sector.
  • Familiarity with APS Values, Code of Conduct, and the broader policy and political environment.
