Senior Network Security Engineer | Aviation-Critical Infrastructure & Network Modernisation

• Location: Brisbane / Canberra / Melbourne (Hybrid)
• Security Clearance: NV1 (Mandatory)
• Engagement: Full-time | On-call roster (1 week per month)

About the position:

This role supports a multi-year network modernisation program transitioning legacy IP and non-IP technologies into a resilient, all-IP architecture servicing national aviation operations.

The environment is safety-first and operationally critical. The network underpins Air Traffic Control, Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, and enterprise systems. Reliability, integrity, and governance are not abstract concepts here they are operational requirements.

You will operate as a senior technical authority within the Network & Telecommunications Platform team, contributing across design assurance, operational support, and lifecycle governance.

What you’ll do:

• Design, build, and maintain complex network security infrastructure within a 24×7 operational environment
• Provide subject matter expertise across secure gateway architectures and telecommunications systems
• Contribute to system assurance, change control, and safety-aligned design integrity processe
• Investigate and resolve defects, vulnerabilities, and operational faults while maintaining service continuity

What we are looking for:

• 7+ years’ experience supporting complex network security infrastructure deployments
• Deep understanding of NGFW, BGP, traffic engineering, load balancing, web proxy, WAF, IPS/IDS, VPN and remote access architectures
• Strong familiarity with Australian Government ISM and PSPF security frameworks
• Confidence operating with limited direction in safety and compliance-driven environments

• Experience contributing to governance artefacts, certification processes, and change control boards is expected
• Ability to mentor and guide less experienced engineers is important

• Secure Network Gateways (Cisco, Palo Alto, Check Point
• Load balancing and application delivery (F5, Infoblox)
• Hybrid cloud exposure including AWS and Azure environments
• Aviation-critical network infrastructure supporting operational services
• Strict compliance with CASA, ICAO, and internal safety standards
