Senior Network Engineer
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Network Security Engineer to join a highly technical team supporting critical enterprise and operational network environments.
This role will suit someone who enjoys working on complex network security challenges, contributing to large-scale infrastructure programs, and operating in a high-availability, safety-first environment.
You will play a key role in the design, delivery, and ongoing support of network security infrastructure as part of a major multi-year modernisation program.
The Role
Reporting into the Network Security Services Lead, you will provide technical leadership across network security platforms and services, supporting both project delivery and business-as-usual operations.
Key focus areas include network security architecture, secure gateway technologies, incident response, and ensuring solutions align with governance and regulatory frameworks.
This role includes participation in an on-call roster (approximately one week per month).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical expertise across network security platforms and services
- Design, build and support network security infrastructure and gateway solutions
- Support major modernisation and transformation initiatives
- Investigate and resolve complex incidents, faults and vulnerabilities
- Ensure adherence to security frameworks, governance and change control processes
- Produce and review technical documentation including specifications, test plans and procedures
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to team members as required
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, project teams and external vendors
Skills & Experience
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- 5+ years’ experience supporting complex network security environments
- Strong hands-on expertise with network security gateway technologies including:
NGFW, BGP, VPN, IPS/IDS, Load Balancing, Remote Access, WAF / Proxy technologies - Experience detecting and responding to security threats using analytical tools
- Strong understanding of Australian Government security frameworks including ISM and PSPF
- Experience working within structured environments with strong governance and change management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum Diploma in IT / Engineering (recognised in Australia or equivalent)
- Australian Citizenship is mandatory
- Must hold NV1 Security Clearance, or have the ability to obtain NV1
- Advanced certifications (or equivalent experience) across:
Cisco | Palo Alto | Check Point | F5 | Infoblox
