Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Software Engineer

* Canberra, ACT
* 12-Month Contract + 2 x 12-Month Extensions

Position Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Software Engineer to join a high-performing government technology team delivering secure, enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 solutions. This role is responsible for designing, developing and supporting modern collaboration and productivity platforms across Microsoft 365, while strengthening security, compliance and automation capabilities. Working within a collaborative technical environment, you will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of critical digital services and help build long-term organisational capability through knowledge sharing and technical leadership.

Key Duties

  • Design and develop SharePoint Online sites, hub sites and enterprise information architecture solutions.
  • Develop SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solutions using React and TypeScript.
  • Build Microsoft Teams applications, bots and integrations using the Teams Toolkit, Bot Framework SDK and Microsoft Copilot Studio.
  • Administer Exchange Online, including mailbox management, mail flow, security policies and connectors.
  • Manage Microsoft Defender, Purview and Microsoft Sentinel security platforms, including threat investigation and compliance controls.
  • Develop automation solutions using Microsoft Graph API and PowerShell.
  • Configure enterprise content management capabilities including metadata, content types and Microsoft Syntex.
  • Implement and maintain Microsoft 365 security controls aligned with Essential Eight and government security requirements.
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for Microsoft 365 platform services and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to technical knowledge transfer and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience developing and administering Microsoft 365, including SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online and Entra ID.
  • Strong experience developing SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solutions using React and TypeScript.
  • Experience developing Microsoft Teams applications using Teams Toolkit, Bot Framework SDK, Adaptive Cards and messaging extensions.
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft 365 security capabilities.
  • Experience developing solutions using Microsoft Graph API, including REST APIs, SDKs and application registrations.
  • Strong understanding of Entra ID administration, including Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Privileged Identity Management (PIM) and Identity Governance.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and Microsoft 365 automation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment while providing technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Microsoft certifications such as MS-102, MS-500 or SC-200 will be highly regarded.
  • Experience with Microsoft Syntex, Microsoft Viva, Azure Functions or Logic Apps will be advantageous.
