The Role

A State Government department is seeking a Senior Media Adviser (VPS5) to deliver proactive media relations, event coordination and issues management in support of emergency operations. This role works closely with senior leaders, ministerial offices, and communication teams to develop strategies that ensure accurate, timely and consistent information is shared with the public. This position runs until February 2026 + potential to extend.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement media strategies and messaging to support emergency response operations.
  • Research, write and edit media releases, speeches, statements and briefing materials.
  • Provide issues management and media advice to senior executives and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate media events, press conferences and official visits, including logistics and briefing packs.
  • Monitor media coverage, identify emerging issues and manage reputational risk.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, public relations or a related field (desirable).
  • Strong experience in media relations, communications or issues management in a complex environment.
  • Proven ability to plan and coordinate high-profile events and media opportunities.
  • Excellent writing, editing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Understanding of government communications and emergency response protocols.
