Senior Mechanical Engineer / Platform Systems Engineer

A leading Defence consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (or Platform Systems Engineer) to deliver engineering solutions across major Defence capability projects. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in Defence engineering, lifecycle management, and systems integration.

About the Role

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for day-to-day systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle of Defence capability projects. The role ensures solutions meet operational requirements, safety standards, and sustainment objectives in accordance with the Engineering Management System (EMS).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking requirements engineering to ensure needs are captured, traceable, and validated

  • Leading or contributing to preliminary and detailed design phases of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)

  • Performing technical investigations and drafting Statements of Work for acquisition activities

  • Producing technical reports, lifecycle documentation, and supporting ECPs

  • Implementing safety programs including hazard analysis, risk assessments, and safety cases

  • Planning and executing Verification & Validation (V&V) activities

  • Developing service requirements for sustainment and maintenance planning

  • Coordinating logistics support analysis, codification, and sparing analysis

  • Providing SQEP reviews and technical advice


Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering discipline

  • 8-10 years’ engineering experience, preferably within Defence (maritime domain advantageous)

  • Australian citizenship with ability to obtain/maintain NV1 clearance

  • Strong knowledge of design, technical investigation, and V&V processes

  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills


Desirable

  • Prior exposure to ADF Capability Acquisition & Sustainment Group or Marine Engineering Industry

  • Experience with tools such as Configuration Management Tool – Unified (CMT-U), AMPS, NAVALLOW, SAP S4/HANA, DOORS, or NLIS
