Senior Mechanical Design Engineers – Perth Airport – Contract

Our client is a leading company in the mining industry, dedicated to innovation and sustainability. In support of their strong focus on green energy and carbon neutrality targets, one of the key initiatives involves Heavy Industry projects aimed at developing and testing a range of technologies to power mining fleets and rail locomotives. We are presently seeking experienced Senior & Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineers for general industry and Rail projects.

Key Design Responsibilities:

  • System Design: Develop 3D design models of locomotive assemblies incorporating electrical systems.
  • Detailed Engineering Design: Translate electrical schematics and wiring diagrams into 3D space.
  • Integration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate electrical systems.
  • Cost Management: Assist in cost estimation and optimization for cost-effective designs.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Participate in testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of designs throughout project lifecycle.
  • CAD Proficiency: Utilize SolidWorks and AutoCAD for drafting and modeling.
  • CAD Management: Support comprehensive CAD assemblies adhering to data management processes.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure designs adhere to quality standards and project objectives.

Key Senior Role Accountabilities:

  • Provide senior support for the Mechanical Design team.
  • Assist in developing technical specifications.
  • Provide regular updates to Principal Design.
  • Manage Drawing Standards and Data Management.
  • Act as 2ic, providing updates on team requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Mechanical or electrical diploma or degree.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in design & drafting in 2D and 3D space.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with comprehensive CAD models with 5000+ parts.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
  • Experience in designing for locomotive and rail systems.
  • Knowledge of battery electric vehicle or train systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacture & Design for Assembly.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
