About the Role

A leading government organisation is seeking a Senior ICT Technical Officer to join their Corporate Services branch. You’ll play a key role in supporting and maintaining a large and complex ICT environment that underpins essential public services – from housing and local government support to state planning and public works.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you’ll work within a team of experienced ICT specialists to manage, maintain, and enhance server infrastructure across both Linux (Red Hat) and Microsoft Windows systems, with a particular focus on Linux environments. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse technology stack, contribute to cloud initiatives, and deliver reliable, high-quality ICT services that make a real difference in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and support ICT infrastructure across Linux, Windows, and virtualised environments (Azure/VMware).

  • Take a lead role in resolving complex incidents and minimising disruptions across critical systems.

  • Manage system patching, backups, and monitoring to ensure optimal uptime and performance.

  • Contribute to lifecycle management, upgrades, and minor project delivery within the infrastructure environment.

  • Provide expert technical advice, consultation, and guidance to internal stakeholders.

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for service improvement and process optimisation.

  • Collaborate with team members and management to enhance system reliability, security, and performance.

  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of customer service and continuous improvement within the team.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience administering and supporting Linux (Red Hat preferred) environments in an enterprise setting.

  • Advanced scripting and automation skills using Bash and PowerShell, with the ability to streamline and optimise operational processes.

  • Proven experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server environments.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud and virtualisation technologies, particularly Azure and VMware.

  • Working knowledge of Azure DevOps and infrastructure-as-code concepts (e.g., JSON, BICEP).

  • Strong understanding of system patching, backup and restore, and monitoring tools (such as Azure Monitor).

  • Demonstrated capability in incident management, root cause analysis, and delivering effective technical resolutions.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical information for a range of audiences.
