Senior Full Stack Software Engineer (Front End Focus)

Our federal government client is seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with a strong front-end engineering focus to support the delivery of secure, scalable, and user-centred digital solutions within its growing AI and automation ecosystem.

This is a hands-on senior role where you’ll contribute to modern UI architecture, accessible design systems, and high-performance front-end applications, while also supporting back-end services and integrations with Azure OpenAI and Azure GovAI platforms.

The Role
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer (Front End), you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain modern front-end applications with a strong focus on usability, accessibility (WCAG), and performance
  • Develop responsive user interfaces using ReactJS, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, Shadcn/UI, and modern CSS
  • Build and maintain reusable UI component libraries aligned with design system standards
  • Optimise front-end performance through effective state management, code splitting, and caching
  • Develop and integrate secure RESTful APIs and back-end services
  • Integrate UI features with AI/LLM services including Azure OpenAI and Azure GovAI
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Git-based workflows, and automated testing
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Government security standards (ISM, PSPF) and secure coding practices
  • Provide technical leadership, peer reviews, and guidance on best-practice engineering
  • Work collaboratively within Agile delivery teams alongside product owners, engineers, and stakeholders

About You

You are a senior-level engineer who brings both deep technical capability and the confidence to lead by example. You’ll ideally have:

  • Current AGSVA Baseline or NV1 clearance highly regarded, proof of Australian citizenship and ability to obtain AGSVA clearance is mandatory
  • Extensive experience delivering complex front-end applications using React and TypeScript
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, modern CSS frameworks, and responsive design
  • Experience building scalable component libraries and maintainable UI architectures
  • Hands-on experience with state management tools such as Redux Toolkit, Zustand, and React Query
  • Familiarity with modern tooling including Webpack, Vite, and Turborepo
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with AI/LLM workflows, including Python-based tooling such as Chainlit or Streamlit
  • Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and ORM/query builders
  • Experience with Azure and/or AWS, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, and observability
  • Strong understanding of secure coding practices, identity management, and API hardening
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
