Our client is a large values-focused Federal Government Agency seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to deliver end-to-end machine learning outcomes in an AWS environment.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can hit the ground running.

Development is in Python, with a strong focus on NLP and Generative AI, plus production deployment and monitoring.

  • Australian Citizenship required (MANDATORY – Federal Government).
  • 12-month contract (possible extension)
  • Highly flexible hybrid work arrangement

Key focus areas:

  • Build, train, deploy and monitor ML models in production (end-to-end lifecycle).
  • NLP delivery (commercial experience required) and Generative AI/LLM use cases.
  • Predictive modelling and advanced analytics to solve complex business problems.
  • Work with stakeholders to translate requirements into delivered outcomes.

Must have:

  • 4+ years commercial experience as a Data Scientist.
  • Strong Python.
  • Demonstrated NLP delivery experience.
  • AWS experience (must-have).
  • Software engineering fundamentals: Git/source control + CI/CD.
  • Experience deploying and monitoring ML models (MLOps mindset).
  • Growth mindset and strong communication.

Nice to have:

  • Project management experience (scope to take on some PM responsibilities).
