Senior Data Engineer
Talent International is currently recruiting for a Senior Data Engineer to work for one of our Federal Government clients one of its multiple office locations across NSW. The position is a 12-month contract role with the possibility of extension. The role pays $850 to $900 per day + Super.
7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week
Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1
Operating at the APS6 level, you will support and maintain enterprise data assets across cloud and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) environments. The role has a strong focus on BAU operational support, including daily data delivery, month-end processing and responding to data-related requests.
You will also help continuously improve data pipelines, engineering standards and delivery processes while collaborating with business and technical teams to ensure reliable, accurate and high-quality data services.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and optimise enterprise data pipelines, ETL processes and analytical code.
- Support daily data delivery, month-end processing and operational data requests.
- Develop and maintain SQL analytical and ETL code for enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Optimise and tune SQL code to improve performance and efficiency.
- Lead technical implementation activities from requirements analysis through to deployment and operational support.
- Analyse business requirements and translate them into technical solutions and data assets.
- Define and maintain data modelling, peer review, development and release standards.
- Review code, data models and technical solution designs.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries and implementation artefacts.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, testers and support teams.
- Support backlog prioritisation, work queue management and delivery planning.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and contribute to team capability uplift.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering standards, processes and delivery frameworks.
Essential requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, you must demonstrate:
- Experience developing and supporting enterprise data warehouse and data integration solutions.
- Strong SQL development, optimisation, performance-tuning and code-review expertise.
- Hands-on competency in at least two of the following technologies:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Teradata
- Snowflake
- Amazon Redshift
- Databricks
- Strong programming capability using SQL and languages such as Python, SAS, R or Java.
- Ability to interpret and apply data models, technical specifications and solution designs.
- Experience working in DevOps environments, including version control and software delivery practices.
- Ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance.
Desirable experience
- AWS data technologies such as S3, Glue or comparable cloud-based platforms.
- SAS, Microsoft Excel and enterprise reporting or analytics platforms.
- Metadata-driven or model-driven development frameworks.
- Agile delivery environments.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline.
