An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a Federal Government organisation’s Data Platform Operations team in Melbourne. This role offers an initial 3-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension, with significant ongoing project work in the pipeline.
You will play a key role in designing, building and supporting enterprise-scale data ingestion and ETL solutions that enable reliable, secure and efficient data movement across the organisation’s modern Azure-based data platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data ingestion and ETL solutions supporting enterprise data platforms.
• Build, test, deploy and support scalable data pipelines using Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, SQL and Python.
• Develop reusable ETL frameworks, orchestration processes and deployment methodologies.
• Collaborate with project teams, platform specialists and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose data integration solutions.
• Support ingestion of structured and semi-structured data while ensuring compliance with security, privacy and governance requirements.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve issues across ETL jobs, data pipelines and platform services.
• Contribute to operational excellence through scheduling, monitoring, alerting, logging and recovery processes.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks and support artefacts.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across data engineering practices, platform capabilities and operational support processes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Proven experience designing, developing and supporting ETL and data ingestion solutions within enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise across Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, SQL Server and associated Azure data technologies.
• Experience building and supporting production-grade data pipelines and operational support processes.
• Strong scripting and development skills using Python, SQL, PowerShell or similar technologies.
• Solid understanding of data governance, security, privacy and audit requirements.
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle including testing, deployment and production support.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong documentation skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.

Mandatory Requirements

• Current Baseline Security Clearance.
• Australian Citizenship.
• Ability to work from the Melbourne office as required.
