The Role

Our client a State Government department is looking for a Senior Adviser, Communications. You will plan, develop and implement communication strategies and content supporting emergency preparedness, response and recovery initiatives. You’ll play a key role in coordinating communication activities, producing high-quality materials for digital and traditional channels, and ensuring timely and accurate information reaches diverse audiences. This is an initial contract until 30 January 2026 + Possible extensions

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver strategic communication campaigns for emergency management programs.
  • Create and edit content for media, web, social, and community channels.
  • Provide advice and coordination to support messaging consistency across teams and agencies.
  • Manage communication risks, monitor issues, and contribute to reputation management efforts.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and community awareness initiatives to strengthen public confidence and understanding.

About You

  • Proven experience in strategic communications or public affairs within complex or sensitive environments.
  • Strong written, editorial and stakeholder engagement skills across multiple channels.
  • Ability to work under pressure and coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting public information or community engagement initiatives (emergency management or government highly regarded).
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, or a related discipline (preferred).
