The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud FinOps Specialist to join the Cloud Governance team within a Federal Organisation. This pivotal role focuses on optimising cloud expenditure, promoting financial accountability across teams, and enabling the organisation to maximise value from cloud investments.

Key Duties include:

  • Leading the analysis and optimisation of cloud spend across platforms such as AWS, Azure, M365, and GCP, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing best practices.
  • Establishing, documenting, maturing, and maintaining FinOps processes, frameworks, and governance tailored to the organisation’s cloud operating model.
  • Partnering with Finance, IT, and Cloud Governance stakeholders to forecast, track, and report on cloud costs, ensuring accurate allocation, chargeback, and budget adherence.
  • Developing and delivering regular reports, dashboards, and insights to leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and recommendations for optimisation.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, IT, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years’ experience in cloud financial management, cloud operations, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience with major cloud platforms and their billing models.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and financial modelling.
  • Advanced understanding of cloud economics, forecasting, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Ability to engage and influence cross-functional teams, driving accountability and change.
  • Proactive approach to identifying inefficiencies and implementing effective solutions.
  • Capacity to align FinOps initiatives with broader organisational goals and embed FinOps into sustainment activities.

The position is remote, with the requirement to visit Canberra as needed for team and organisational obligations. Initial onboarding will require up to one week in the office, and candidates based offsite will need to attend team meetings in Canberra at least four times per year at their own expense.
