Secondary Design Drafter

Our client is a leading company within the utilities industry, who are looking to bring on an experience Secondary Design Drafter/Technical Officer for an initial 12-month period. This role will be based in their Melbourne CBD office with a hybrid working arrangement. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working in Secondary Design, proven ability in developing detailed wiring diagrams for complex brownfield projects and will be able to work autonomously.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Secondary Design Engineers to develop detailed wiring diagrams and schematics for complex brownfield projects.
• Produce accurate and detailed secondary design drawings according to project specifications and engineering standards.
• Conduct quality assurance and cross-checking of secondary design drawings on an ad-hoc basis to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Work independently to manage drafting tasks, prioritizing workload and meeting project deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Interpret engineering data and specifications to create clear and comprehensive secondary system documentation.
• Update and maintain secondary design documentation throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring version control and traceability.
• Coordinate with engineering and project teams to resolve design issues and incorporate feedback into drawings.
• Support project teams in brownfield environments, adapting designs to existing infrastructure constraints.
• Ensure all secondary design outputs comply with relevant standards and client requirements.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience in secondary design drafting, preferably within complex electrical or infrastructure projects.
• Strong ability to produce detailed wiring diagrams and schematics aligned with engineering specifications.
• Experience in brownfield project environments, with the ability to adapt designs to existing systems.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in quality assurance and cross-checking of design outputs.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple drafting tasks with minimal supervision.
• Good understanding of electrical secondary systems, protection schemes, and control wiring.
• Strong communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively with engineers and project teams.
• Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to secondary design documentation.
