Scrum Master – EL1
- Canberra, ACT | Hybrid – minimum 3 days per week in the office
- 12-month contract + 12-month extension option
- Must be able to obtain NV1 clearance
Position Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced EL1 Scrum Master to support the delivery of large and complex ICT projects within a Federal Government environment. Working across multiple project teams, you will lead Agile delivery practices and coordinate multidisciplinary squads spanning Business Analysis, QA, Service Design, UX/UI and Development.
This role will suit a hands-on Scrum Master who can combine strong Agile leadership with practical delivery management. You will guide teams through ceremonies, manage backlogs and delivery priorities, remove barriers and provide clear visibility of progress, risks and dependencies.Key Duties
- Lead one or more multidisciplinary squads delivering complex ICT projects in an Agile environment.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives and release planning.
- Manage squad workloads and product backlogs using Jira, including reporting, burndown charts, velocity tracking and forecasting.
- Work closely with Business Analysts to develop and refine user stories, acceptance criteria and Definitions of Done.
- Lead Program Increment (PI) planning activities and support end-to-end delivery planning.
- Partner with testing teams to coordinate testing activities and prioritise defect resolution.
- Support Product Owners with backlog management, new requests and removal of delivery barriers.
- Manage project scope and timelines through sprint and release planning.
- Coach team members in Agile frameworks and Scrum practices, supporting improved Scrum maturity.
- Manage project governance, stage gates and reporting requirements, escalating risks and concerns where required.
Skills and Experience Required
- 3+ years’ experience facilitating the delivery of complex projects using Agile methodologies.
- Strong understanding of SAFe and experience applying it within large and complex programs.
- Demonstrated experience working with Business Analysts to ensure user stories are refined and ready for upcoming sprints.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and strategic directions while adapting effectively to change and uncertainty.
- Strong practical experience with Jira, along with proficiency in SharePoint and Confluence.
- Experience managing user stories, product backlogs, sprint planning, Agile reporting and burndown charts.
- Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance.
Highly regarded experience includes delivering large-scale ICT transformation programs within Australian Government and exposure to technical projects involving data migration, large case management systems or information management systems. Tertiary qualifications or recognised certifications in Management, Project Management or a related discipline will also be viewed favourably.
